In 2007, we have literally serviced hundreds of clients and we have only had one be dissatisfied.
Here's what happened. We got a call late in the day on a Thursday from a man I will refer here to as "Mr. G". He was in distress and needed documents drafted regarding the involuntary commitment of his mentally ill wife, and he needed them that day. I informed him that we had never prepared documents of this type before but he insisted that they were straight forward and that he had all the information needed to complete the package.
He brought the package of forms with him and after I was instructed on what to do, we agreed that we would meet at 8:00 PM that night in a parking lot that was convenient for him so he could get the documents filed with the appropriate agency that night. Now, we never handwrite documents unless it is absolutely necessary and who has a typewriter these days? We certainly don't! So we created the documents from scratch on our computer using the package provided to us by Mr. G. as a template. When we finished they looked exactly like the preprinted forms given to us by Mr. G. I delivered them to him at 8:00 PM as agreed and thought we had done a great job!
Well, the next week, Mr. G stormed into my office and walked over to my receptionist and said "I paid $500 for these documents and they are worthless". He didn't ask for his money back and started to walk out. I stopped him before he got to the door and asked what happened? He told me that the agency would not accept the documents that we prepared because they were not the exact forms that they had provided.
They actually wanted handwritten answers to the questions on the forms. This is very rare in our business. The only other form that I am aware of that has this requirement is an Application to Waive Filing Fees in Superior Court. Anyway, Mr. G. went on to tell me that he had to sit there and recopy all of our work onto another set of forms. I told him we had a money back guarantee and I wrote the check on the spot. Lesson learned. We won't make that mistake again.
